Golden Valley’s Struthers Parkinsons Center Celebrates 20 Years With Large Project
Golden Valley is home to several facilities aimed at helping those with disabilities and health issues, one of which is Struthers Parkinsons Center, 6701 Country Club Drive.
Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital, the centers owner, sought council approval Jan. 6 to expand the facility and renovate a portion of the existing building.
To do so, the city must amend the planned unit development created in 1983.
If approved, the Center would see its footprint increased by 2,680 square-feet bringing the total from 15,292 to 17,972 square-feet.
In addition to the new construction, 7,825 square-feet of the existing facility will be remodeled.
Additions and renovations are expected to relocate and expand rehabilitation program service, create a gathering space, expand education and training capabilities and create an indoor and outdoor movement therapy garden with landscaping and artwork.
The addition will consist mainly of brick and glass to match the existing structure.
Expansion would mean a smaller parking lot. However, the parking lot will continue to meet all city requirements, according to staff.
Stormwater plans will also be revised allowing more water to be routed underground.
Tree preservation and landscaping plans will be reviewed by the city forester prior to final planned unit development submission in the coming months.
The proposal also included the neighboring property, Gurstel Chargo, 6681 Country Club Drive, due to the project crossing over property lines.
